Strategic Planning

We take an evidence-based approach to strategic planning, beginning with a visioning of the “to be” future, along with comprehensive review of current capabilities, leading to the definition of a specific set of strategic thrusts or goals and objectives.  One-on-on sessions and multiple workshops are utilized to accelerate the process and align the organization.   We often continue to support the effort beyond planning, to help ensure strong implementation.

Nonprofit strategy clients range from social services, education, and arts organizations.

Our approach encompasses three key elements, all of which are essential to a well-defined and well-executed strategy:

  1. First, the strategy must take a rigorous fact-based approach to identify programs and services that will best deliver the desired mission impact in the community. This is a given in virtually any strategic planning effort.
  2. Beyond that, it is critical to also determine the organizational capacity needed to sustainably deliver on those programs and actively build those in parallel.
  3. Lastly, but at least as importantly, successful implementation of a strategy requires energetic buy-in from staff, board, and community stakeholders. Buy-in does not happen at the end of the process. It must be built up throughout the planning process via active engagement of those stakeholders.
